The Diversity Park located in the grounds of Flowerfield Arts Centre opened this afternoon at 4.50pm. A number of local families were queuing with excitement despite the rain to enter for the first time.
The park was due to open earlier in the day but due to unfinished business it was delayed.
We contacted Cllr Darryl Wilson who recently proposed that Council improve all play parks to cater for children of all abilities.
Cllr Wilson said. “I called in to see the park which is being finished off by contractors at present , it officially opens on the 23rd of September this year.
The diversity park is unlike anything we currently have in the Borough, it has an exceptional range of apparatus which will suit children of all abilities. Thankfully my proposal calling for Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council develop and implement a programme of works to ensure that facilities/apparatus for Children with disabilities is installed in play parks across the entire Borough was successful.
The diversity play park certainly sets a very high standard and contains some marvellous pieces of apparatus which I hope will be fitted in other parks over the coming years. We must continually strive to ensure that all children have the opportunity to share and enjoy local park facilities together.”
Causeway Coast Community understands that Council officially opens the park next month.
