A music fan called into a McDonald’s drive-thru but when staff suspected he was over the limit they refused to serve him and when he then went inside to complain about not getting food, police arrived.

Stephen Gamble (28), of Meadow Hill, Raphoe, had travelled from Donegal for a concert in the Bushtown Hotel in Coleraine and on the way home called into the restaurant in Coleraine at 2am. A prosecutor told Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday May 21 that police were tasked to the Riverside Park East on Tuesday April 24 this year. The defendant had a reading of 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35mcgs.

He admitted to police he had a “couple of beers” and was intending to drive home. The defendant appeared at Coleraine Court on Monday, where he was self-represented, and was given a one year driving ban and fined £250.
