Driver was seen ‘staggering’ to vehicle in Ballycastle and was later found to be three times the drink limit

1 Mins read

A man three times the drink drive limit in Ballycastle has been banned from the roads for 18 months and fined £300.

Alexander McMullan (60), of Whitepark Road, Ballintoy, was detected at Coleraine Road on July 18 last year.

Police received a report of a highly intoxicated man “staggering” before getting into a car which officers located a short distance away.
The defendant was in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court on February 25 he pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol in his blood.

He had a reading of 242 with the legal alcohol in blood limit being 80.

A defence lawyer accepted it was a high reading.
