Drunk man was ‘aggressive’ to takeaway staff

1 Mins read

A DRUNK man who was verbally abusive and “aggressive” to staff at the Chequers takeaway at Long Commons in Coleraine has been given a three months jail sentence, suspended for 18 months.

Philip Rea (35), of Norwell Park in Castlerock, also damaged a Peugeot 306 on the same date – September 16 last year.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday he pleaded guilty to charges of disorderly behaviour and criminal damage.

The court heard damage was caused to the vehicle after the defendant asked for a “lift” and he had then also headbutted a van.

Defence barrister Francis Rafferty said the defendant “suffers from alcohol difficulties” and had no recollection of what happened but pleaded guilty when he saw CCTV.

The court heard Rea has now completed a six week course with Addiction NI.

The defendant was also ordered to pay compensation of £500 for the damage he caused.
