At tonight’s Environmental Services committee, DUP Councillors proposed installing a new toilet facility for boat owners at the council-owned harbour, which is approximately 50 yards away from the existing public toilets.

The DUP motion was defeated 4 votes for, 6 against.

The decision is yet to be ratified at full council.

The Notice of Motion was proposed by Alderman Fielding, seconded by Councillor McLean (referred from Council Meeting 7 January 2020).

The motion reads; “That this Council provides a permanent toilet facility at Portstewart Harbour for the use of Boat Owners.”

In a social media response to a comment, Alderman Fielding said “What was proposed was to use the already disused winch house which could have been renovated for one toilet for the sole use of boat owners at minimum cost after all they do pay harbour fees.”
