East Londonderry DUP Assembly member George Robinson MLA has expressed relief that Loganair are to secure the Londonderry – Glasgow air route.
“This announcement is very welcome for everyone in the Northwest. The Glasgow route was popular for many reasons, holiday, sport, family visits, so the news that it is to be saved is fantastic.
It also means that an additional airline will operate from Londonderry and that we will have routes to both of Scotland’s major cities. This type of connectivity is always welcome as it adds another selling point for the North West to attract investment and tourism.
I look forward to seeing the route inaugurated in October, the day after Ryanair stop the route so no loss of service should be experienced.
The airport is not fully appreciated for its vital role in the local economy, and I hope that if people are travelling to Scotland or making connecting flights in Stanstead or Liverpool, that they will consider using the current services from Londonderry” concluded Mr Robinson.
