East Londonderry MLA Maurice Bradley has stated his alarm on hearing news of 77 redundancies at AVX.

Speaking to Causeway Coast News he said: “I have been contacted today by employees at AVX, worried at the prospect of redundancies.

When I contacted the company, unfortunately, it has been confirmed that AVX have begun negotiations with union representatives over the job losses.

A spokesperson for AVX told this office that the company are devastated to be making this announcement. It is not the news they wanted to be giving their staff during this uncertain period during the current pandemic.

However, AVX as a company have demonstrated a duty of care for their employees over this devastating news and will work closely with union representatives to lessen the impact of job losses.

I will be seeking an urgent meeting with Invest NI to ask what they are doing to promote investment in the Causeway Coast and Glens area and to what extent are they working to create investment opportunities for large Provincial towns like Coleraine,” concluded Bradley.
