Emergency services called to Dunseverick Castle

A major rescue operation took place earlier today at Dunseverick Castle on the North Antrim Coast after a female got injured while Coasteering in the area.

Coastguard Rescue officers from Ballycastle and Coleraine attended the incident as well as the Portrush inshore RNLI Lifeboat along with the Northern Ireland Ambulance service who also sent a Rapid Response paramedic along with a road Ambulance to the scene and a command unit.

Following assessment by the NIAS paramedic, it was decided that the casualty needed to be extracted from the scene. The Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 199 based at Prestwick was scrambled to attend and winched the casualty from the incident scene to the clifftop.

The female casualty was met there by the Medical crews of the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance (HEMS).

She was assessed at the scene and airlifted by HEMS to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

The extent of her injuries is unknown at this stage.
