Emergency Services In Attendance At Larne Harbour

Emergency services are currently dealing with reports of a fire in the engine room of the European Causeway operated by P & O at Larne Harbour.

European Causeway entered service in August 2000 replacing the Pride of Rathlin. She was specially designed for the Cairnryan-Larne route and has not operated in service away from this route only straying for refit periods.

UPDATE : 17.46 – A spokesperson for NIFRS said ‘NIFRS received a call at 4:32pm today (31 March 2019) to attend an incident involving a fire in the engine room of a ferry ship. A full attendance was mobilised.

We currently have 3 Fire Appliances in attendance.

The fire was extinguished by the ship’s crew and internal fire suppression system. NIFRS are liaising with other agencies at the scene.
There are no reported injuries and all persons are accounted for.’

The ship is currently offline until further inspections are carried out.
