Emergency services were tasked shortly after 1pm this afternoon to a gorse fire on land near the Station Road area of Dunloy.

A police spokesperson said “Please do not start fires in the countryside – It’s putting a huge strain on our local firefighters. NIFRS are asking that farmers do not carry out any controlled burning during this time.

If you are concerned or see any suspicious activity in the countryside please report it to us.

Thanks to all our Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service colleagues fighting the fire. We hope you guys get it under control soon, Stay safe!”

Police are asking the public to avoid the area if possible and drive with caution on nearby roads.
