The Ulster Unionist grouping on Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council are delighted that their proposal to award the freedom of the Borough to Joan Christie OBE CVO and Sir Dennis Desmond CBE has been passed tonight at a special full council meeting.
The Ulster Unionist grouping put forward the proposal to see Co Antrim and Co Londonderry’s Lord lieutenant’s receive this special accolade.
“That this Council awards Freedom of the Borough to Mrs Joan Christie OBE CVO, Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim and to Mr Denis Desmond KCVO CBE Lord Lieutenant of County Londonderry, in recognition of their dedicated and outstanding service during their tenure of Lieutenancy, which has brought dear pride and satisfaction to the citizens of this Borough”.
A spokesperson for the group said “After giving a lifetime of service to their communities both, Joan and Denis, were asked to give more. In the service of Her Majesty. Both have represented Her Majesty with loyalty, dignity and commitment ever since. In doing so, they have represented us, as citizens, at the highest level.
Such commitment and dedication to the people of this Borough is deserving of our highest recognition, they are outstanding individuals within the Causeway Coast and Glens area, and to show our appreciation, they are worthy of the accolade, Honorary Freedom of the Borough.”
