Alderman Mark Fielding is The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens for 2020/2021.
He was nominated by his party ( DUP ) at this evenings AGM.
The Deputy Mayor for the term ahead is UUP’s Alderman Tom McKeown.
Speaking to us shortly after the meeting Mayor Mark Fielding said ;
“I am honoured and delighted to have been given the opportunity to be the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens during this challenging time.
“I look forward to working with the community of our borough as we embark on the path of recovery.
“Also, 2021, will be an important year as we mark the Centenary of Northern Ireland and I will encouraging as many people across our borough to play their part in events and celebrations that will be organised for this significant milestone in our history.
Congratulating Alderman Mark Fielding on his appointment Independent Councillor William McCandless said;
“It will certainly be a different role from the normal which Mark will have to perform in these trying times of the Covid-19 pandemic but I am sure Mark will surmount the challenges of social distancing and zoom meetings to perform his role to the best of his ability.
“Mark is a hard-working Councillor, well respected by his fellow Councillors and in the community he represents.
“I wish him a successful term and have faith in him to represent Council with integrity and perform the role with commitment and passion.
Alliance Councillor Chris McCaw also welcomed the appointment;
“On behalf of Alliance, I would like to wish my warmest congratulations to our new Mayor.
“As a fellow Councillor for the Causeway area, I have worked with Mark on a number of issues and have always found him to be a very hardworking and diligent councillor, who will bring this commitment to service to his new role as Mayor.
“I wish Mark and his family all the very best for the coming year.”
