First Sod cut at new social housing development Portstewart

1 Mins read

Councillor Quigley delighted to be asked by management of Radius housing to cut the first sod in the new social and affordable housing scheme in Portstewart.

She said, “I was honoured to be asked to this ceremony today , a very special moment.

In my role as a local representative the majority of my daily constituency work is dealing with people in housing crisis, housing stress , ending up homeless and sofa surfing.

It is very difficult to argue that in this day and age housing is not a fundamental need.
Without stable shelter, everything else falls apart.

This is fantastic for the Portstewart area, as there is a compelling need for social housing in this area given the high demand and extremely low turnover of housing.

I work closely with Radius and Braid Water homes and I can testify to the high quality housing they provide.

The scheme is mixed tenure and meet needs for general family accommodation, complex needs , active elderly and 12 affordable homes for sale.

Work is due to start within the next few weeks and Spring 2020 the stage will be completed.
