Food Smart Initiative coming to local libraries

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Recycling Officers are bringing their Food Smart initiative to local libraries. Officers will be on hand to offer advice on reducing food waste while helping us re-connect with and value our food.

Residents are encouraged to take another look at all the items going into their black bin – could these be recycled or saved from going to landfill? It takes a lot of water, energy, fuel and packaging to produce the food we buy. It’s easy to make a difference.

The average family with children throws out up to £700 worth of food per year. That means every month £60 worth of perfectly good food is wasted. It’s in everyone’s interests, both financially and environmentally, to save food destined for the bin.

Turning less food into rubbish can make a real difference to the world around us. Drop in to one of the sessions taking place in libraries right across the Borough, and have a chat with a the Recycling Officer to find out more about recycling, keeping food fresher for longer and making sure less food ends up going to landfill.
