Great Taste Awards Success on the Causeway Coast and Glens!

1 Mins read

Council’s Causeway Coast and Glens Food Network’s food and drink producers have achieved brilliant success at this year’s Great Taste Awards. In 2016 over 400 judges, including specially trained food writers inputting judges’ comments, came together at 49 judging days from March through to early July.

This year the Great Taste judging roadshows had a week in Belfast, supported by Invest NI. The judges, from all corners of the food world, blind-taste in teams of 3 or 4 ensuring they get a balance of expertise, age and gender. Broighter Gold’s (Limavady) Special Edition Liquid Gold rapeseed oil, with 23ct Gold Flakes won 2 stars, while North Coast Smokehouse (Ballycastle) won with their Smoked Dulse, as did Broughgammon’s (Ballycastle) Smoked Goat Bacon.

Lacada’s (Portrush) Stranded Bunny porter won in the 1 star category, alongside Glenballyeamon Eggs (Cushendall) and North Coast Smokehouse’s Smoked Sea Salt. Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Maura Hickey said “Following on from the recent Grow Make Eat Drink award nomination successes, this is further evidence of the quality of flavour in our home grown, hand reared and home brewed produce.

These achievements are particularly special in this, the Year of Food and Drink. I congratulate all those who have had such great success so far.”
