Police evacuated houses and Bonny’s Caravan Park in Northern Ireland after a vicious fire tore through Tollymore Forest in Newcastle last night.

Hundreds of holidaymakers were taken on buses to a nearby community centre after fears of the blaze spreading.

A spokesperson for NIFRS said “55 firefighters, 8 fire appliances and 2 specialist appliances attended the incident.  Crews worked hard tackling the fire and protecting properties that could be at risk. Conditions were punishing and challenging.”

Emergency crews remain at the scene.
