A popular takeaway restaurant in Portstewart is facing a potential penalty of £80,000 after Immigration Enforcement Officers acting on intelligence discovered a number of people on the premises who were in the country illegally.
Chopsticks, was visited by the officers on Thursday 28th September.
A spokesperson for the Home Office issued the following statement; “A total of 4 people were arrested at the premises after it was found they had overstayed their visas.
Three woman and a man were arrested. Two of the women and a man must report regularly to Immigration Enforcement while their cases are progressed.
A 57-year-old woman is in detention while steps are taken to remove her from the UK.”
