Joan Christie OBE has been awarded with a CVO – Commander of the Victorian Order.

This is a private honour awarded by the Queen – not a public one hence minimal local media coverage. It has been covered by the English newspapers and officially announced in the London Times.

It is awarded for services directly to the Royal Family.  Joan Christie OBE has been Lord Lieutenant of Co Antrim for the last 9 years and has taken the role of the LL to a whole different level.

In 1976, she was awarded the MBE for services to the Government and then in 2005, she was awarded the OBE for services to Education.

Earlier this year, she was granted Freedom of the Borough for Mid and East Antrim Council.

Speaking to Causeway Coast Community this morning – Son Of Joan, Marcus Christie said, : “My sisters and I are immensely proud of mum and what she continues to achieve! Even though she puts the three of us to shame with her energy.”

Joan Christie OBE said  “I am humbled. The role of Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant is in itself a great honour. I am delighted to receive this honour”.
