Large Oil Tank Fire, Ballycastle Road, Coleraine

At 0402hrs Sunday 22nd January, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a large fire at the rear of a premises on the Ballycastle Road Coleraine. On arrival fire crews discovered the oil tank engulfed in a large fire. Five fire appliances attended the scene, One from Coleraine, Two from Portrush, One from Portstewart and One from Ballymoney. The fire and emergency support unit were also sent to the scene. Fire crews worked quickly to ensure the fire did not spread to adjoining properties and contained the scene very quickly ensuring the safety of all residents nearby. PSNI officers also attended the scene and closed the Ballycastle Road to all traffic. Nearby residents left their homes for fear the fire would spread. No injuries have been reported however it is believed that at the time the fire was reported, people were still inside the premises. NIAS Ambulance crews attended to those nearby also.
