A laser pen was shone as the driver of a fire appliance while attending an incident in Portrush last night.
A spokesperson for NIFRS said “Firefighters were called to respond to a smell of burning within a property. Firefighters carried out a check of the property but no sign of fire. The false alarm with good intent was dealt with at 10.39pm. A laser pen was shone at the driver of the Fire Appliance on arrival and leaving the scene.”
Speaking to Causeway Coast Community this morning Alderman Norman Hillis said ” I believe two fire appliances were on a call out in Portrush last night. Whilst on duty I am told a laser light was shone at the crew.
This could have had very serious consequences if the driver had lost control of the fire engine. This rank stupidity of the person shining the laser is to be utterly condemned.”
