Laverty welcomes proposals for ten new homes on Rathlin

1 Mins read

Ambrose Laverty has welcomed proposals for ten new social housing units on Rathlin Island. The Independent member was speaking as the Rural Housing Association are set to host a community consultation event on the island this Wednesday.

The Housing Association is set to propose a mixture of house types including one, two, and three bedroom types. In addition, advanced disability friendly units may form part of any new proposals.

Independent member Councillor Laverty stated;

“A need for social housing exists throughout the Borough. But at no time can housing stress become an issue that could put the viability of the North’s only inhabited island in jeopardy. Need has been identified and evidenced and affordable housing is a prerequisite to sustainability on Rathlin.

“Recent social housing development on the island only went to support the acute need that exists. It only partially addressed the need. I hope and trust others will join me in supporting the need for the development at Church Bay Rathlin”.
