Vandals targeting life-saving riverside safety equipment are putting lives at risk according to a Coleraine councillor.
The DUP’s Trevor Clarke says he discovered a number of throw-lines at the town’s Christie Park were missing or unusable yesterday evening. He has appealed for the life-saving devices to be left alone.
“There are obvious dangers associated with tampering with emergency equipment. The riverside walk is well-used by locals and visitor alike, and the river itself is popular with rowers. These devices are literally lifelines and their absence could lead to tragic consequences and the loss of life.”
Cllr Clarke says he has asked Council to replace or repair the lifesaving equipment as a matter of urgency.
“Council officers advise this is a regular occurence, and not just in Coleraine. I would urge the public to keep a watchful eye and report any vandalism to the PSNI.”
