Live streaming of council meetings should be progressed in the interests of open democracy- Peacock
Sinn Féin Councillor Leanne Peacock has said that live streaming of council meeting should be progressed and has urged fellow councillors to support a proposal coming forward to that effect.
Cllr Peacock said, “ The very fact that people are taking an interest in local government should be welcomed and we, as elected representatives, should be working to ensure that local government is as open and accessible as possible to the people that we represent.”
“Live streaming is something that is easy to do, in this day and age, and due to advances in technology has only a small cost associated with it. As an elected member, I want people to be interested in local government and to be informed, up to date and engaged in the democratic process.”
“There are elected members of our council who are resistant to this. I will advocate strongly for local government to strive to be as open, transparent and accessible as possible for those we represent.”
