Recently, the East Londonderry Branch of the Alliance party held their AGM at the Cromore Holt,
The meeting also featured an address from Naomi Long MLA, the Alliance party leader. She battled
through the snow and ice to make it to Portstewart to speak to the enthusiastic crowd of local activists.
The meeting began with a welcome from East Londonderry Chair, Chris McCaw. Reports were then
submitted by the committee members. Finally, the committee members and executive officers were
elected for the next year. This included the reelection of Chris McCaw as the Chair of the local party,
and former Councilor Yvonne Boyle as the Vice-Chair.
All eyes then turned to Naomi Long. She spoke about a variety of topics including the ongoing talks at
Stormont, the Brexit negiotiations, and the ambitions of the party for the next year.
Naomi stressed that activists were at the heart of the Party, and that through some hard work and graft a
big difference can be made to the local area.
Speaking after the meeting, and his relection as the local branch chair, Chris McCaw said, “We are
delighted that our AGM was a big success. We were also very pleased to see so many new members
turn out, particularly a good number of young fresh faces!
“The last year has been particularly frustrating in Northern Irish politics. From our increasing local
membership to what we are hearing on the doorsteps, we can tell that people are fed up with the status
quo of division and stagnation. Alliance offers a real alternative. We look forward to getting out into local
communities over the next year, and working hard to build a shared future for everyone in Northern
Our thanks must go to Naomi Long, our party leader, for travelling through treachous conditions to come
speak to us, and the staff of the Cromore Holt for their fantastic hospitality. ”
