SIX favourite Roald Dahl child heroes appeared in stunning locations across the UK yesterday, in the form of unique LEGO® brick builds to mark ROALD DAHL DAY. The National Trust’s Giant’s Causeway played host – appropriately – to SOPHIE, brave heroine of Roald Dahl’s THE BFG.
Bushmills Primary School were invited along to the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre to help unveil the LEGO® build of SOPHIE and enjoyed a giant Snozzcumber cake to celebrate the event. The celebrations continued later that evening when local families enjoyed a special screening of the BFG at the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre – Northern Ireland’s very own land of the giants!
SOPHIE, who is composed of 36,517 bricks and took 170 hours to construct, will remain at the National Trust’s Giant’s Causeway for 2 months. Visitors are encouraged to share their pictures with SOPHIE using #LegoSophie, #RoaldDahlDay and #GiantsCausewayNT on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
Additional events will include a story-telling session with local writer and story teller Liz Weir on Sunday 17th September in the Causeway Hotel, with craft tables, a caricature artist and face painting next door in the Visitor Centre. There will also be a LEGO building competition on Saturday 30th September with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries and goodie bags for all participants.
