Loss of licence will cause difficulties for farmer who was caught drink driving, court hears

1 Mins read

THE loss of his driving licence after being detected drink driving will cause difficulties for a Glenshesk farmer as the lands where he farms are spread out, Coleraine Magistrates Court heard.

John Paul Dillon (33), of Drumavoley Road near Armoy, was caught over the limit at the Ring Road in Coleraine at 4.20am on September 23 this year.

Police saw the defendant’s vehicle crossing a white line and when they spoke to him they could smell intoxicating liquor.

He had an alcohol/breath reading of 68 with the legal limit being 35.

A defence lawyer said the defendant had been out with friends and felt he was fit to drive.

He said the defendant, who was a “man of good character,” wished to apologise.

The defendant was banned from driving for 14 months and fined £200.

District Judge Peter King said he could not impose the minimum one year ban as the defendant was almost twice the limit.
