Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has said a loyalist rally on parades planned for Ballymoney will not help solve parading issues.
Speaking after plans were announced for a loyalist rally in Ballymoney, the North Antrim MLA said;
“There are hundreds of non-contentious parades that take place across North Antrim without issue or comment.
“There are however genuine concerns that need addressed. Rather than ignore these or defend and rally around blatant sectarianism coming from some bands and parade followers I would hope that Unionist and Loyalist leaders will stand up and say that sectarian behaviour is wrong and should have no place at any parade.
“The issue of a very small number of contentious parade locations whether that be Rasharkin, Ballycastle or elsewhere can only be resolved through genuine negotiations between parade organisers and local communities.
“They will not be resolved by this protest planned for Ballymoney which is basically an exercise in seeing who can shout the loudest.”
