Lush! Twenty-One –Dance Music Classics performed by the Ulster Orchestra scheduled for October 2017

4 Mins read

October 2016 saw one of the most spectacular classical dance events ever held in Northern Ireland.

A phenomenal, first-of-its-kind event featuring a 60-piece classical orchestra, world-renowned DJ’s and live vocalists playing floor fillers from the past 20 years all produced in conjunction with Kylie Minogue’s musical director….and the result was simply out of this world.

A sell-out gig with over 5,000 people aged 18 to 65 brought together, in an electric atmosphere dancing the night away to songs like For An Angel, Insomnia, and Such A Good Feeling.

And guess what? They have just confirmed that they are doing it all over again!

Saturday 7th October 2017 has been confirmed as the date for Lush! 21 – a night of Dance Music Classics performed by the Ulster Orchestra – the difference being that this time it promises to be ‘longer, louder, larger and even more sensational than before.’

Col Hamilton, co-founder of Lush explains: “Lush! 20 was the most phenomenal event I have ever had the pleasure of organising in my 30 year career. The feedback was simply out of this world.

“We had people fly in from all over the world for this event and so many people asking when the next date was. This was meant to be a one-off show to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Lush! Nightclub – a true institution in Northern Ireland. But it was so incredibly successful in every sense of the word that we couldn’t fail to do it one more time. We have even been asked to take the entire show on tour – to the UK and even Ibiza!”

“Lush 21 will be even more spectacular. We have taken the entire SSE Arena – seated and standing, equating to a further 4,000 tickets. We will have a bigger sound system, longer sets, and more staff on the bars – the SSE Arena said it was the biggest bar takings the venue had seen all year!

“And to top it off, we just signed world-renowned DJ legend, Paul Oakenfold to close the event.”

“Not only will he, Dave Seaman and Seb Fontaine accompany the Orchestra throughout the event, but Paul will continue his set until midnight in the Arena. They will all then continue their sets in Box Nightclub where all three DJ legends will play until the wee hours.”

Lush! 21 will once again be produced by Brothers In Rhythm, the duo consisting of Kylie Minogue’s musical director, Steve Anderson and top international DJ, Dave Seaman whilst the musical scores will again be written by Cliff Masterson, composer, orchestrator and string arranger who works with artists including Little Mix and Emeli Sandé.

Organsiers have also confirmed that there will also be extra Golden Circle tickets available, which come complete with VIP bar access.

Col Hamilton continued: “I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this game-changing classical club event in Northern Ireland and urge people to get their tickets soon as we are expecting another sell-out show.”

Fiona McDonnell, Director of Concerts and Artistic Planning of the Ulster Orchestra said “The Ulster Orchestra are delighted to be involved in such a fantastic event once again.

“Dance Music has been on our ever expanding playlist for quite a few years, but we as an orchestra we had never played anything like Lush 20.

“The musicians enjoyed every single beat and the reception they received from the arena was simply amazing – an incredible experience. Every single one of us is looking forward to next year’s event with much anticipation.”

Paul Oakenfold who will headline the night commented: “I am honoured to be asked to play at what sounds like the most epic dance night of all time!

“I have played in Lush! and a lot of other venues in Northern Ireland many times and think the crowd is fantastic – these guys know how to enjoy themselves.

Paul concluded: “I am genuinely excited by the creative mix of musicians involved in this project, and if I know Lush! this event will be something truly spectacular.”

Steve Anderson, Kylie Minogue’s musical director commented ” Lush! 20 was a surreal, brilliant, emotional, uplifting and perfectly event executed by the most incredible team. To witness over 5,000 people screaming, singing and dancing to the soundtrack of their lives was something very special.

Steve concluded: “As soon as there was any question of doing another show – I didn’t hesitate to sign up – it was one of the best nights of my life.”

Dave Seaman, International dance music DJ and record producer said: “I have travelled the world in my career and been lucky to play some of the biggest venues in the world, and it has to be said that Lush! 20 was off the scale – Let me tell you, there were a few tears shed! It was a night I will treasure forever and I am counting down the days to round two. The Ulster Orchestra and all local vocalists involved did Northern Ireland proud. ”

Peter Wilson, owner of Lush! And Kellys Complex in Portrush said: “I am over the moon that we are doing this event again. It was a heck of a lot of hard work for Col and the team but to see the crowd’s response was absolutely worth it.

“What we uncovered is that there is undoubtedly a market for dance events for the older crowd, those who don’t necessarily want to go to nightclubs every week, but will come out to enjoy music from their younger days.

Peter concluded: “The night was simply electric. The musicians, the crowd, the atmosphere. All we have to do now is top it with Lush 21!”

Tickets for Lush! Twenty- One – 21 Years of Dance Music Classics performed by the Ulster Orchestra, go on sale 10am Friday 2nd December and are available to purchase from www.ticketmaster.ie and www.kellysportrush.com/tickets + The SSE box office.
