Irish Cup winners Coleraine FC should be given a public reception in recognition of their success, according to one local councillor.
The Bannsiders beat Cliftonville 3-1 in Saturday’s final at Windsor Park to claim the club’s sixth Irish Cup win.
Coleraine councillor Trevor Clarke says the club’s success has boosted spirits in the town.
“Coleraine’s players, management, back room staff and supporters have been magnificent throughout the season. The richly deserved cup win has provided the whole community with a great ‘lift’. The team has been embraced across the town and beyond, and it would only be fitting that the success is formally recognised and celebrated. It would be great to see the team in the town centre with the Cup. The decorations are already in place” he said.
“I have been in contact with Council’s Chief Executive and I’m hopeful a suitable event can be organised soon.”
