Police arrested a 32 year old man on suspicion of assault on police and obstructing police following an incident on Park Street in Coleraine yesterday afternoon, Tuesday 28 November.
He remains in police custody at this time.
A female, aged in her 30’s, also arrested at the same time was dealt with by way of a Community Resolution Notice.
Local MLA Maurice Bradley was full of praise for the alert action of local police officers on the beat today on Park Street.
He said: “We were sitting in the office when a commotion broke out, just outside the office.
“We went out and saw two officers making an arrest when one of those being taken into custody broke free and ran off pursued by an officer who called for assistance.
“Soon there were quite a number of police cars and officers in the vicinity and down the main street.
“The officers made a couple of arrests, although at this stage I have no idea what for.
“However, something happened to arouse suspicion and the officers on the beat were quick to react.
