Man becomes unwell en route to custody following Portstewart arrest

Police were tasked to an address on Church Street in Portstewart last night (Saturday 12th September) following a report made at around 9:20pm in relation to a man who had become unwell.

Inspector Mullan said: “Officers responded and attended the address, where the NIAS had attended and taken the man, aged in his thirties, to hospital.

“While in attendance, officers conducted a search and a small quantity of suspected drugs was recovered.

A man, aged 31 years of age, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of Possession of a Class B controlled drug. When en route to custody, the man became unwell and officers took him to hospital. The man was subsequently de-arrested.

“An investigation is underway.”

The Office of the Police Ombudsman has been notified.
