A man charged with attempted murder has had his case sent to Antrim Crown Court.
Iain Joseph McMullan (54), is accused of committing the offence on November 28, 2016.

He appeared in the dock at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday for his Preliminary Enquiry – the legal step to send a case to the higher court.

A defence lawyer said the defendant, whose address was given as c/o the Causeway Hospital, was accompanied to court by a care worker and social worker.

The lawyer said the defendant remained a “detained patient,” which he had been since the time of the alleged offence.
The lawyer said she was content the defendant would be able to understand the charge.
The defendant said he had no objections to the holding of the Preliminary Enquiry.

A prosecution lawyer submitted that on the basis of the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

The defence lawyer said she had no contrary submissions.

District Judge Liam McNally held that the defendant did have a case to answer.
The defendant replied “no” when asked by a court clerk if he wished to say anything in response to the charge.
The defendant was released on his own bail of £750 and the case was sent to Antrim Crown Court for mention on November 20.
