Man faces series of charges accusing him of having knives and machete in public places

A MAN charged with having offensive weapons – including a machete – in public places on four occasions has been further remanded in custody.

Mark Laurence Woods (44), with addresses listed at Parklea in Portstewart and Silverthorn Avenue in Coleraine, is alleged to have had a lock knife at The Diamond in Portstewart in April; a ‘selection’ of knives and blades at New Row in Coleraine in July and a knife in a public place – which was not stated on the charge sheet – last August.

He is also accused of having a machete and knife as offensive weapons at Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine in September.

Regarding the July allegations, the defendant is also accused of having a 9mm round of ammunition in his possession in suspicious circumstances and is also accused of having drugs including speed.

The cases have been adjourned to March.
