POLICE found a man lying covered in blood on a kitchen floor after he was allegedly stabbed in the chest by his partner, Coleraine Magistrates Court has heard.
Nicola Mary Davies (45), of Sliverthorn Avenue in Coleraine, wept in the dock as she was charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm to her partner of ten years. A police officer said bail was objected to.

The officer said police received a 999 call at 11.50pm on Friday January 4 from the defendant saying she had stabbed her partner. The court heard the man was bleeding heavily from a chest wound. The woman’s son (12) was in the back garden upset and there were two other children, aged five and two, in bed at the address. Police found an injured man covered in blood on the kitchen floor and officers applied first aid.

The defendant allegedly made comments to police and claimed: “He just goads me”. The injured man was taken to hospital with a 2cm deep wound which was 8cms long and was released from hospital on Saturday January 5.

He told police he had been in the kitchen on his phone on a betting site and his partner didn’t like him betting. The man said he had been stabbed in the chest and his partner had then applied pressure to his wound. The defendant told police she wanted to watch a film with her partner and said she had lifted a chair to put something between them.

Davies claimed to police she had been grabbed by the face which was “slammed” down onto a kitchen table and she broke free and lifted a knife. The woman told police her partner “must have stepped forward” and she claimed she had “not intended to stab him or murder him”.

Defence solicitor Derwin Harvey said a number of the defendant’s family members were in court. A number of them were also crying. The defendant was released on £500 bail to an address at Macosquin and she is to have no contact with the injured man.

She is barred from entering Coleraine except for court and she is not to drink alcohol. The case was adjourned to February.
