Man is accused of stealing food during Christmas and New Year holiday period

A MAN has been charged with theft of foodstuffs worth £9.98 from a Spar shop in Portstewart on a date unknown between December 29 last year and New Year’s Day, 2019.

Gary Lewis (35), with an address listed as Hazelbank Road in Coleraine, had the case mentioned at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday.

A defence solciitor said the defendant was not present as he lives elsewhere in Northern Ireland.

The lawyer said he wished to view CCTV in connection with the case and said the defendant will be pleading not guilty.

The case was adjourned to the end of the month.
