Man is to contest sword case

A man is to contest a charge of possessing a sword as an offensive weapon in a public place on New Year’s Eve.

Alan Robert Evan Owen (35), of Cranfield Court in Portstewart, is alleged to have committed an offence at Cranfield Court on December 31 last year.

The case was mentioned at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Friday where the defence solicitor was John Murphy.

The case has been adjourned to mid-October.
