Man killed in Coleraine road traffic collision named locally

A man who died following a road traffic collision in the Quilly Road area of Coleraine has been named locally as Johnny Scott. The incident happened around 6.45 on Sunday evening.

This morning a police spokesperson said ‘A man in his 30s has died following a collision on Quilly Road in Coleraine. The man was a pedestrian who was struck by a car at around 6.45pm on Sunday 24 February. The Quilly Road was closed for a time but has since reopened.

Police investigating the collision are appealing for witnesses. Please call 101, quoting reference 1165 24/02/19.’

Mayor of Causeway Coast & Glens Brenda Chivers said ‘Very sad to hear of another death on our roads. Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved RIP’

Speaking to Causeway Coast Community, Maurice Bradley MLA said ‘Sad news that another life has been lost on the roads in the Coleraine area.

The circumstances of the fatality have not been released by the PSNI yet, but it is another sad house and family which have lost a loved one.

There are no words of comfort adequate at this sad time but I would extend my sincere sympathy to the victim’s immediate and extended family circle.’

Further commenting on the tragedy SDLP Councillor Stephanie Quigley said ‘This is just devastating news that in this area within a week a second young father has lost his life as a result of a road traffic accident.

We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the entire family circle, they are very much in our prayers now and will be in the weeks to come.’
