Man was acting suspiciously at Portrush amusement arcade on Easter Monday – then drugs were found

1 Mins read

A MAN caught with drugs at a Portrush amusement arcade on Easter Monday has been ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.

Christopher William Paul, of Millbrooke Manor, Ballymoney, appeared before Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday June 17.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing MDMA, cannabis and Alprazolam on the afternoon of April 22 this year.

The court heard how Paul had been arrested after police received a report that a man was acting suspiciously in the arcade where he had been going in and out of a toilet.

White powder and tablets were seized and during a search of Paul’s home cannabis was found in a kitchen cupboard.

During interview Paul made full admissions and insisted the drugs were for his personal use.

In his defence, the court was told that Paul had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and had “relapsed” after having issues with drugs.

However he was managing to “hold down a job”.

District Judge Peter King said he had received “as glowing a report from Probation as I have ever seen” regarding the defendant.
