Man with 79 previous convictions admits possessing cannabis

1 Mins read

A MAN with 79 previous convictions has been fined £250 after pleading guilty to possessing herbal cannabis.

Coleraine Magistrates Court, on January 20, heard how David Gibson was detected after police were called to Bushmills Road, Coleraine, on October 23, 2018.

Officers stopped two males and asked 34-year-old Gibson, of Hill Street, Ballymena, to empty his pockets.

Just over a gram of herbal cannabis was seized.

Defence solicitor Andrew Kinney said the offence was “relatively minor” and the defendant deserved credit for the way he had met the matter.

District Judge Peter King said Gibson had 79 previous convictions, but only one was drug-related.
