On their marks for the annual Edwin May Nissan 5 Mile Classic road race

Launching the ‘Edwin May Nissan 5 Mile Classic’ road race are Aaron Watton and Leanne Fulton from Edwin May, Lisa Mullan and Brian Tohill, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Springwell Running Club members Karen Smith, Ali Kelly and Kenny Bacon and The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird, OBE.

People of all ages and abilities can sign up now for the annual ‘Edwin May Nissan 5 Mile Classic’ road race.

Organised by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, the event will take place on Wednesday 9th August, leaving from Coleraine Leisure Centre at 7.30pm.

With a range of categories, participants can sprint, run or jog the five mile course.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird OBE, said: “I was delighted to help launch this fantastic event, which promises to be an evening of fun for spectators and competitors alike. It’s suitable for everyone from seasoned runners to beginners, so I would encourage as many people as possible to sign up.”

Organiser Brian Tohill, from Coleraine Leisure Centre, said: “This event has gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years. We have 20 different categories for people to choose from including a veteran section for over 35’s to over 65’s and a male and female wheelchair race. Many entrants will be participating for the first time, while other experienced road racers will be setting their sights on a new personal best.”

“I would like to thank the team at Coleraine Leisure Centre and Springwell Running Club, especially Kenny Bacon for all his support. Thanks also go to Edwin May Nissan for their continued sponsorship.”

Kevin Bacon said: “The club is delighted to assist Coleraine Leisure Centre in the organisation of this annual road race. Last year’s event was a huge success and we hope for the same result this year.”

Runners are advised to register early in order to secure a complimentary t-shirt.
