A number of local community groups have enjoyed a visit from the new Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

The engagements allowed Alderman Mark Fielding to find out more about the significant response to the coronavirus pandemic and how communities have reacted to the ongoing situation.

Across the Borough, volunteers continue to dedicate their time and efforts to help those most affected by the health crisis. Over the past few weeks, the Mayor has visited Bushmills, Ballymoney, Coleraine, Cushendall, Limavady and Portstewart to meet with some of those involved.

He said: ““These visits took me to all corners of the Borough and have allowed me to find out more about the tremendous work that has been going on. On behalf of Council, I want to offer my sincere thanks to all those who work so hard to look after their vulnerable neighbours, especially in these recent difficult times.

“In Causeway Coast and Glens we are fortunate to have a very active community and voluntary sector, which consistently does all it can to improve the lives of our residents. When the social impact of the coronavirus pandemic became apparent, its role was made even more important and we are so grateful to those who stepped up and put themselves forward to help.

“For months now people have gave up their own time to provide practical and emotional support, which has made a real difference to those most in need during the pandemic.

“These groups, along with many retailers across the Borough, deserve a lot of credit for how have they reacted to the pandemic, and I was grateful for this opportunity to meet with some of them and offer my gratitude.”
