Mayor welcomes Portrush funding announcement

1 Mins read

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has welcomed the recent £3million regeneration scheme announced for Portrush.

The Urban Development Grant will be used to bring vacant, derelict or underused land and buildings in the town back into use ahead of the Open Championship in 2019. Alderman Maura Hickey said: “This funding is another important part of the planned regeneration programme for Portrush as it looks to confirm its position as a premier tourism destination.

“Its natural assets and scenery are unrivalled, and this programme will help to ensure these are complemented by high quality infrastructure which will only serve to heighten its overall appeal. “I would like to take this opportunity to urge all those with an interest to attend the upcoming workshop in Portrush Town Hall.

We all have a role to play as we prepare to put the area on the global golfing stage.” The workshop for potential applicants will be held on Tuesday 24th January in Portrush Town Hall from 2pm – 7pm. This will allow prospective applicants the opportunity to meet and ask Departmental officials about the scheme.

Applications must be received by the Department by 22nd February 2017.
