Mayor’s reception held for Dunloy Accordion Band

1 Mins read

The recent achievements of Dunloy Accordion Band have been marked by a civic reception.

The event in Cloonavin was hosted by the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird OBE.

Earlier this year, band members were honoured to receive the John Hanna Memorial Cup for ‘best band on parade’ at the Sham Fight event Scarva. The cup is named after Councillor Baird’s late husband, John Hanna.

Councillor Baird said: “Back in July I was delighted to see that the cup was won by a band from our Borough. Of course this was made all the more special as it happened during my term as Mayor. I was delighted to welcome band members to Cloonavin, where I was able to offer my congratulations to them in person. Their march set performance in the Bann Gallery gave us just a flavour of why they were chosen to receive the cup, and my thanks go to all members who took part. I hope they enjoyed the evening as much as I did.”

Dunloy Accordion Band was established in 1956 and now attracts members from across Northern Ireland.
