The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has applauded the work of Portrush Heritage Group.

Some of its members visited Cloonavin recently for a civic reception.

Described as the ‘jewel in the Portrush heritage story’, the group recently commissioned a set of paintings featuring a middle Bronze Age settlement discovered in the Corrstown area of the town. The general view and street scene paintings were on display during the reception.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Joan Baird OBE said: “I would like to thank you for all the work you do on behalf of the community in Portrush. You are one of the most active groups in the Borough and while a lot of what you do is unseen you make an enormous contribution in helping to keep the stories of our past alive.”

The group is looking forward to the return of its annual ‘Pirates Off Portrush’ celebration which takes place on Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July.

Events over the weekend include a treasure hunt, storytelling, pirate dress and dance competitions, town parade, Medieval Battle Field and Childrens’ Storytelling Marquee.
