Ulster Unionist Councillor William McCandless has condemned the recent rise in vandalism within the Coleraine area.
In a statement, Cllr McCandless said : “On 15th August I met with senior officers of PSNI in Coleraine and had advised that I was noticing an increase in vandalism in the centre of town at Park St. and the Anderson Park area.
For the past few weekends there has been destruction of property – walls, rubbish bins thrown into the brook and bins also set on fire. Unnecessary waste and additional burden to the ratepayer.
This recent attack on the College is also unacceptable and particularly distressing after the excellent work that Mr. Marsh and his team are accomplishing with the students. I visited the College earlier this year to meet with the senior students and was impressed with their engagement and enthusiasm. In a time where Education is facing stringent cuts this is such a waste of money.
I would appeal to the public to report any acts of vandalism to Inspector Donna Bowden and her Neighbourhood team to enable them to take effective action.”
