Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has urged Road Service to look again at traffic management through the village of Dunloy. This call comes after another accident in the centre of the village this morning.
Mr McGuigan said, “ The speed of traffic is one of the biggest issues facing the residents of Dunloy. For 10 years Road Service and the PSNI have failed to satisfactorily address this issue.”
“I think that proper measures are needed to slow traffic from the 40mph zone on the Garryduff Road side of the village through to the Bellaghy Road village exit.”
“Speed assessments have proven that there are too many road users that fail to slow down whilst driving through the village.”
“I have lost count of the number of times I have met with Road Service, the PSNI or the Council on this issue.”
“There is to be a new 40mph zone put in place shortly on the Bellaghy Road side of the village and I hope that this does have a positive impact.”
“More still needs to be done though and road users need to take responsibility themselves driving through the village before someone suffers a tragic accident.”
