McGuigan welcomes Peaceful Conclusion to Loyalist Parade in Rasharkin

1 Mins read

Sinn Féin councillor Philip McGuigan welcomed a peaceful conclusion to tonight’s Loyalist band parade in Rasharkin but said that it still represents an unnecessary and unwanted event for the vast majority of Rasharkin Residents.

Cllr McGuigan said : “Restrictions placed by the Parades Commission with regard to flags and music along with the decision to restrict Dervock band are all welcome. Along with the singular route through the village all are positive.

“That said this parade is still seen as unnecessary and sectarian in nature by the vast majority of Rasharkin Residents and there was a number of breaches of the Parades Commission determination this evening which will be reported.

“In the absence of inclusive dialogue with the residents  the Parades Commission need to look at making further restrictions to allow the local residents the rights and entitlements that they should have in their own village that this unwanted Parade denies them each year”
