Sinn Féin councillor Cara McShane has written to Causeway Coast and Glens Council to query its spending on awards ceremonies and to ask why it did not respond to a Freedom of Information request on the same issue.
Cllr McShane said:
“I have written to Causeway Coast and Glens council to ask how much Council has spent on awards ceremonies over the past three years and to query why the Freedom of Information request regarding this was refused, given that every other Council across the north was able to provide a response.
“The lack of response brings into question the Council’s attitude to transparency and accountability.
“Given a number of issues that have been raised regarding Council actions recently, including paying to attend a DUP fundraising event, the highest degree of transparency, particularly on spending of ratepayers money, needs to be forthcoming from council.
“It is important that the public have confidence in governing bodies and it is our duty as councillors to hold Council to account.”
