The countdown is on.   Couples around Northern Ireland have been entering online to Win a Wedding worth £30,000 in association with Belfast Live.   One local couple, Jenna Cochrane and Phillip Doherty have made it to the final 20.

Speaking to Causeway Coast Community this morning, Jenna Cochrane from Portrush said “We were lucky enough to be shortlisted to the final 20. The final ten will go through to the next heat with the most votes on this evening.  The finalists will attend the wedding Journal show at start of February.

I entered the competition on the train from my home town of Portrush to Queens University a couple of weeks ago. I am a student midwife and my partner is a firefighter currently commuting from Edinburgh. To win a our wedding would be amazing.

Being a student this would be a big help financially. To enter the competition I had to write in 100 words why I thought we deserved the wedding. I talked about how Phillip and I had our first date on a night out in Portrush. I suffer from Crohn’s disease which resulted in me having bowel surgery and I don’t keep very well. I explained how Phillip and I hit it off and how supportive he was of my illness. He never made me feel embarrassed if I had to run to the toilet or made me feel like I had to hide anything.

He sat by my side after I had my surgery and supported me to get back to university to study Midwifery. he supports me on a daily basis with my symptoms of pain and overwhelming fatigue. We are really happy and to win our wedding would be a dream come true.”
