TWO men charged with rape and other offences following alleged incidents have been remanded in custody.
The charges followed a report of a serious sexual assault in the Bushmills Road area of Coleraine in the early hours of Saturday September 22. The accused are Nicusor Adascalitei (29), with an address near Bushmills, and Roman Dan Alexandru (21), with an address in Coleraine.
They both appeared in Limavady Magistrates Court on Wednesday. They are both accused of raping a female on September 22.
Both men are also charged with sexually assaulting another female on September 21. Adascalitei is also charged with the theft of a mobile phone valued at £500 belonging to the alleged rape victim on September 23.
He is further charged with the theft of a driving licence belonging to another female on September 22. He is also accused of handling stolen goods, a mobile phone, on September 24.
Other counts being faced by the second defendant, Alexandru, include a charge of stealing a mobile phone and bank card on September 22 belonging to the female who allegedly had her driving licence taken by Adascalitei. Alexandru is also charged with handling stolen goods – a mobile phone – on September 23.
Both accused had applied for bail but it was refused after the court heard there were concerns that the defendants could attempt to flee the jurisdiction; commit offences or contact witnesses or the alleged injured parties.
Both accused were remanded in custody and the case was adjourned to a date in October when they are due to appear, via video link from prison, at Coleraine Magistrates Court.
